Every sail is a key to adventure. It’s the excitement of a new boat, the thrill of competition, and the magic of a sunset cruise. It’s the freedom of being on the water.
For over 30 years, our Gold Coast loft has been helping sailors capture that feeling.
What began as a passion for sailmaking has evolved into a mission to to push the limits of performance and craftsmanship. Whether you’re chasing speed, endurance, or the simple joy of sailing, GC Sails is here to help you power your next adventure
GC Sails (formerly Evolution Sails Australia) offers a full-service sail loft supporting both local and interstate clients.
We specialise in sails for both cruising and racing, catering to yachts, catamarans, sportsboats, and dinghies. Our services also include boombag stack packs, boom covers, trampolines, rope bags, and chandlery to support all your sailing needs.
Caedric got his start in sailing at 12, teaming up with his brothers to buy a Hobie Cat and join the local sailing club. Fittingly, the three brothers ended up in the marine world, as a boat builder, a rigger, and Caedric, a sailmaker.
With over 18 years of experience, Caedric began as an apprentice in a major North Sydney loft before going on to pioneer the continuous fibre membrane sail process. He also founded and ran CRMembranes.
A seasoned sailor himself, Caedric has completed four Sydney to Hobarts and competes on the international IRC circuit. He’s a firm believer in precision, durability, and craftsmanship, values that are at the heart of every sail we produce.
“I love the art of sailmaking. Turning cloth into a three-dimensional shape with a bit of colour.”

Joel Turner is a born-and-bred Gold Coast sailor who grew up between Hollywell Yacht Club and his family’s cruising catamaran. A life on the water taught him the ropes early - weather, boat handling, and a deep love for sailing.
By 12, he was racing dinghies and skiffs, eventually spending a decade with the Australian Sailing Team. These days, you’ll find him offshore, having competed in two Sydney to Hobarts and several East Coast races.
With experience across everything from catamarans to ocean racers, Joel brings a calm, confident presence to any boat. He’s also a dedicated coach, sharing what he’s learned with the next generation of sailors.
“I love coaching and sailing with clients. Helping people learn and improve is one of my greatest passions."

Salvo is a second-generation sailmaker from Sicily with a background as unique as his stitching - holding a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Business. After COVID, he set his sights on a new adventure, landing in Australia and joining our loft in January 2023.
Since then, he’s brought a sharp eye for detail, serious efficiency, and a touch of flair to everything he does. Now on the path to permanent residency, Salvo has completely embraced Aussie life, spending much of his time outdoors munching on Tim Tams.
“I like the process of building a sail. I’m into the details and like the finish well done.”
Sailmaker
Angus Wheatley joined Evolution Sails in October 2023, bringing with him a lifelong passion for sailing.
He got his start at just six years old, racing Optis at his local club in Dubai. After moving back to Australia at 12, Angus spent four years on the Junior Optimist Sailing Team before moving through the dinghy ranks and into yacht racing post-high school.
With sailing always front of mind, Angus kicked off his sailmaking apprenticeship with GC Sails (then Evolution Sails). He’s now hands-on in the loft and out on the water - learning the craft, fine-tuning sails, and working alongside the team at both local and offshore events.
“I would love to compete in some of the major offshore races around the world, such as the middle sea or transpac”
